4 wk Session Hand Building Pottery Course

1-3 pm. Wednesday 11th, 18th, 25th September, 2nd October.

Learn hand building construction and decoration techniques on this relaxing fun course.  We provide a mix of structured and free flow making ideal for beginners and improvers supported by two of our talented potters. Hand building provides endless making and decorating possibilities for decorative and functional ware. 

Week 1 

Pinch pot and coil pot construction techniques will be used to create a planter or vase. Adding your own texture and or embellishment ideas. 

Week 2 

Slab building techniques  will be learnt and used to create a mug or jug, adding the skill of handle making and foot rings to this session.

Week 3 

Working with colour, use the techniques learnt to create designs of your choosing, we will create and use a marbled clay slab for one item and apply coloured slip to the other. We will learn sgraffito techniques for this pot in week 4. 

Week 4

Glazing the pottery created in weeks one and two and complete a sgraffito design on the slip pot from week 3. 

Your pottery will be fired and ready for collection two weeks after course end. 

If you enjoy this course and want to continue your making journey we offer studio sessions for pop in support, will happily fire any pots you start to make at home and happily supply materials for you. 

Clay quota and firing of your pottery is included in the price of £120.
