Originally trained in textiles, Mark has applied his love of surface decoration to ceramics for over 25 years. His thrown, hand-built and slip cast pieces showcase his distinctive black and white decorative style.

Mark creates his decorative effects predominantly with slip decoration, paper resist and lustre, developing his own slip trailer, which he sells internationally.

His influences range from a love of sci-fi and comics of the 50s and 60s to 17th Century Staffordshire slip trailing. Mark is a member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen and works from his Staffordshire studio. He has exhibited at the York Ceramics Fair, Potfest, Oxford Ceramics Fair and Art in Clay Farnham.

In this half-day workshop you will have the opportunity to decorate two tiles using Mark’s unique slip trailing and paper resist decorative techniques. Mark will discuss his ceramics journey and share how the skills he has developed over 25 years of making could be applied to your own ceramics practice.

This hands on workshop will provide a great opportunity to try a new decorative technique or trouble shoot your projects with an expert.

Mark will be glazing and firing the tiles, using his own glaze mixes and firing cycles. The tiles will then be ready for collection at Firefly in a few weeks.
